Synchronous Condenser

Rotating, synchronous machines deployed to support both System Strength and Inertia in a Power System where the proportion of conventional Synchronous Generators is declining.  Their primary functions include:

  1. Voltage stabilisation to support System Strength;
  2. Provision of Reactive Power to support Voltage control; and,
  3. Positive contribution to Fault Current levels.

Given the fast-evolving nature of power system transformation, the Future Grid Accelerator (FGA) has the status of a perpetual BETA version. Your suggestions for how each concept and definition may be enhanced are very welcome.

All feedback will be reviewed and considered for inclusion in subsequent updates.
