Firming Resources

A flexible supply of Energy that can be called upon instantaneously or over long periods as the output of intermittent sources of generation vary and/or there is sudden increase in Demand which exceeds their available capacity. Examples of Firming Resources include:

  1. Energy Storage such as utility-scale BESS, Pumped Hydro and Flywheels;
  2. Gas-fired generation; and,
  3. Virtual Power Plants (VPP) to aggregate the capacity and capabilities DER/CER.

Given the fast-evolving nature of power system transformation, the Future Grid Accelerator (FGA) has the status of a perpetual BETA version. Your suggestions for how each concept and definition may be enhanced are very welcome.
