Electric Products

The valuable physics-based services that may be provided to the Power System by Consumer Energy Resources (CER/DER) in exchange for some form of value or additional benefit.  These may be summarised as the ‘3Rs’:

a) Real Power: measured in MW, is the instantaneous rate at which electrical energy is generated, transmitted or consumed;

b) Reactive Power: measured in MVAR, sustains the electrical field in AC systems while maintain voltage within the limits specified for safe operation (source or sink); and,

c) Reserves: measured in MW, represent contracted commitments to deliver or reduce real power (MW) or energy (MWh) at a point of time in the future.

All beneficial physics-based services provided to the Power System by CER /DER or Energy Resources more generally are ultimately derivatives of the 3Rs above. Refer also to Electric Product Value.

Given the fast-evolving nature of power system transformation, the Future Grid Accelerator (FGA) has the status of a perpetual BETA version. Your suggestions for how each concept and definition may be enhanced are very welcome.

All feedback will be reviewed and considered for inclusion in subsequent updates.
