Microgrid

A group of interconnected Customer Loads, Generation Plant and diverse Distributed Energy Resources (DER) that are located within clearly defined electrical boundaries, supported by a dedicated internal management system and may present to the wider Power System as a single operational entity.

Some Microgrids may have a permanent connection to the Power System, which may include the ability to operate in both grid-connected and islanded modes. Alternatively, where a Microgrid serves a geographically remote community, it may be entirely autonomous and have no interconnection with any larger Power System.

Given the fast-evolving nature of power system transformation, the Future Grid Accelerator (FGA) has the status of a perpetual BETA version. Your suggestions for how each concept and definition may be enhanced are very welcome.

All feedback will be reviewed and considered for inclusion in subsequent updates.
